UtilX® Management Team

The UtilX management team brings decades of construction and technology experience and a penchant for innovation to the power cable industry.  Technical excellence, attention to detail and a fervent focus on customer satisfaction are among the management team's primary attributes.

Jack Stel, CEO and President
Jack Stel joined UtilX in January 2005 as its VP of International Business Development and was appointed as its President & CEO in June 2009. Since early 1998, Mr. Stel was a VP of European Operations and a VP of Worldwide Sales for a Silicon Valley-based global electronic components manufacturing company. Later, prior to joining UtilX he advised various other USA-based high-technology companies on international operations and business development.  From early 1987, for a period of 10 years, he was the President and Managing Director of CEC Nederland BV (now Dalkia BV) in the Netherlands, a subsidiary of the energy services division of the French multinational Compagnie Generale des Eaux (now Veolia Environnement).  Before then he held various senior executive positions with engineering and distribution companies in the Middle East, Africa and Asia.  Mr. Stel was educated in the Netherlands, holds a Degree in Mechanical Engineering and has extensive experience with Electrical and Electronics Engineering.  He is a Chartered (Professional) Engineer, a Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute and a Member of the Chartered Institution of Building Services, all in the UK.

James (Gus) Derezes, Vice President of Sales and Marketing
Gus graduated with a BA degree in Business from Western Washington University in 1983 and went to work for Westinghouse in various roles in the sales and marketing division as well as distribution management. After serving at Westinghouse for 16 years, he joined UtilX in 1999 serving initially as the Western Sales Manager and is now the Vice President of Sales and Marketing. He is an active member of the Western Energy Institute as well as a member of the IEEE.

Jerry Hardt, Vice President Finance and Accounting
Mr. Hardt joined UtilX in December 2007 in his current role, Vice President of Finance and Accounting.  Prior to joining UtilX, Mr. Hardt was in the technology industry as the Director of Corporate Finance with Expedia.com, a NASDAQ 100 corporation and the world's leading on-line travel company.  Mr. Hardt also worked for Wizards of the Coast, a Hasbro subsidiary and worldwide leader in leisure entertainment.  Hasbro is an S&P 500 company and Mr. Hardt was employed in the capacity of Director of Financial Planning and Analysis.  Mr. Hardt holds an Executive MBA from the University of Washington and a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Central Washington University.

Steven Maasch, Vice President Human Resources
Steven Maasch hold responsibility for Human Resources functions across the InfrastruX Group of companies and for leading the UtilX Human Resources, Safety and Training, Customer Support Services and Legal functions.  Prior to joining InfrastruX and UtilX Corporation, Mr. Maasch held senior management Human Resources positions within the manufacturing, mining and financial/insurance service industries, including Milgard (a division of Fortune 200 MASCO Corporation) and the (Fortune 500) HON Company.  Mr. Maasch earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Montana State University.

Kris Rubino, Vice President of North America Operations
Kris Rubino joined UtilX in 1987 as a Field Engineer assisting in the design, development and implementation of its Directional Drilling technology. During his employment with UtilX he has also held positions within the Operations Group as Eastern Regional Director, Northeast/Midwest Operations Manager and Northeast Team Manager. Prior to joining UtilX, Mr. Rubino held engineering positions with Exact Equipment Corporation and Netzsch, Inc.  Mr. Rubino graduated from Pennsylvania State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology.

William (Rick) Stagi, Vice President Engineering
William (Rick) Stagi (BSME), is currently Vice President of Engineering at UtilX Corp. There he oversees the company's research, development and engineering field support efforts for both the CableCURE® chemical injection and CableWISE® cable insulation assessment business units. Rick is an active member of IEEE, its' Insulated Conductor Committee (ICC) and CIGRE. He has authored many papers and lectured on the topics of chemical rejuvenation technology, cable neutral corrosion and cathodic protection schemes for power distribution cable. He has inventor status on 9 domestic patents either existing or pending. Previous to his work at UtilX, Mr. Stagi was the Owner/President of Stagi Engineering and Design, an engineering design group that performed prototype machine design and engineering services, nationally and internationally.
